Following the release of Sony?s epic Greatness Awaits trailer for their highly anticipated Playstation 4 console, the gaming giant is auctioning off props, costumes and artwork from the popular advertisement in its new ?Bid For Greatness? promotion. The currency? PlayStation gold trophies. Similar to Xbox?s ?Achievements?, these trophies are digital awards players receive when successfully completing certain sections or aspects of a game. Although the trophies were originally used exclusively valuable for bragging rights, Sony is now rewarding avid gamers with a way to ?spend? their hundreds of trophies?in a daily video game memorabilia auction occurring on the Bid For Greatness microsite. The featured memorabilia?includes props used in the recently released PS4 trailer such as swords, shields, maces, full-body sniper outfits, swashbuckling assassin costumes, and even witch doctor headdresses, to name a few. All of the props have appeal to the die-hard gamer crowd, so it?s appropriate that only the most accomplished gamers (with the most trophies) have a chance to win them. Sony?s Bid For Greatness promotion is a strategically savvy way for the company to not only reward loyal customers, but also to get more milage out of a great ad and, ultimately, build more excitement for the November holiday release of Playstation 4.
